Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Licensed Rehabilitators

Many states have laws that restrict or limit people from helping or rescuing abandoned, sick, or injured wild animals.  Primarily because most people do not have the training or experience to properly handle or treat wild animals.  Also, wild animals can and sometimes do carry infectious diseases that can be harmful to humans and family pets.

So, what should you do if you encounter an abandoned, injured, or sick wild animal? In Virginia, contact a licensed rehabilitator.  For your convenience, we have posted licensed rehabilitators for Newport News and Hampton, Virginia.  You can locate a licensed rehabilitators in your area through the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website.  Learn more >
